7 Steps For Success in Treatment

1. Diagnostic Assessment: Comprehensive history and intake.

2. Treatment Goals: Establish, elaborate, and negotiate on the desired outcomes that you wish to achieve within treatment. Steps 1 and 2 take 2 - 4 appointments to complete.

3. Reading and Self-Learning: Depending on what kind of problem you want help with, I will assign you reading from one of the following.

4. Getting Unstuck: Our appointments will be spent almost entirely on figuring out where you are stuck and how to get out of that trap. This can be done by demonstrating a technique, negotiating with you on certain decisions, or having an old-fashioned conversation.

5. Evaluations and Surveys: You will fill out surveys at the beginning and end of every appointment to see if what we’ve done is working for you. This is my only form of quality control to ensure you are receiving care that is working for you and is to your satisfaction.

6. Recovery: I define “recovery” in my practice as: feeling much better compared to when you first came in and achieving your treatment goal(s) to a satisfying degree. If you haven’t been able to reach recovery, we will loop back to Step 2. We can also discuss other options at this point such as a referral or taking a break from treatment to consider your decisions.

7. Relapse Prevention Training: After you’ve obtained recovery, we will discuss what to do when you relapse in the future. This usually takes only 1 session to do. We will review the process of what helped you change. I will also teach you how to anticipate and defeat a relapse before it can defeat you. The treatment will teach you how to feel better. Relapse Prevention Training will teach you how to get better and stay better on your own for the rest of your life.
